I really need your help picking my logo…

My contest on Sitepoint is about to end and I wanted to pick the winner. Here are the 4 I like the most (I guess 3 since 1 is a variation of another but still). Let me know what you think and which one represents the “brand” the best…

Logo 1 -  logo1

Logo 2 -  logo2

Logo 3 -  logo3

Logo 4 -   logo4

Let me know what you think by taking this quick poll – thanks

    Hello Yanik,

Logo number one is by far the best.

But how about making the “a” more readable by doing this:

Try and try and try again…

  4. Franck Silvestre Says:

I prefer the logo number one. It’s more in the spirit: fun and young.

  5. Frank Welzig Says:

I’d have to choose #4 Yanik but I really don’t think any of them capture the spirit of Maverick the way they should. I think you should keep looking until you see the one that really knocks you out.

  6. Yanik Silver Says:

    Guys – thanks.

And Michael thank you for putting up a sample of a new concept. I actually had the artist design something similar but it didn’t quite seem right. Frank – you’re right about still looking but at some point we gotta get it going and then maybe just revise as we go. I fixed the survey now so it should work.

I love # 3 but think it can be spiced up with a guy / girl hanging by one arm from the M as if he is mtn. climbing, another dude up top skydiving, and another figure either snowboarding mid air off the side of the M.

2 or 3 little action figures added to # 3 will be really cool I think!

  8. Rob Says:

Yanik, logo #1 by far is the one to go with

  9. Mickey Says:

    Yanik,

Logo 3 seems too busy, lots going on there. And if you add more to it, like people doing activities, it’s going to get too much.

To me, a good logo is simple, unique, instantly recognizable and memorable. Logo 3 reminds me of others I’ve seen. Sure, it’s tough to come up with something truly original. But logo 1 is stronger, in my opinion. And the way the graph and the “M” are used in logo 3 is a bit cliche.

Just to add to the mix (and your frustration of picking “the one” ;o)…

I like logo 2, too. How I see it, it’s got a mountain and sky thing going on in the background, in a subtle way. Though I might try a blue sky instead of green to see how that looks. To me, this takes logo 1 a step further, making it even better. And it conveys a bit more about what the business is about (the outdoors, adventure). Captures the spirit more.

Don’t like logo 4 at all. Too stiff. Boring. Easy to forget.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

    Good luck!

    Mickey

    Hi Yanik,

I thought I would approach this from the point of view as a potential customer who might see the logo that caught my eye the most.

I really do Like the Concept of #1 the best and I like the Flare of the logo as well as the colors. It’s Fun, not boring like the others (to me) and more importantly, it actually draws me in to maybe want to see what this thing is all about which is the goal of that logo – attract my attention and getting the prospects to check this think out!!

Now, looking at this thing from me being a potential customer, when I see it it just seems like there is a little something missing to me. I think it does come down to the quasi “@” character of the thing and leaves me not quite sure what to think of it as a potential customer.

I really think it does need to be a more pronounced @ sign with the hand incorporated with it and you could tilt/offset it a bit. Just looking at the way it is now you see the logo and pretty much know it is the word Maverick but then again is it? And, I am not sure the connection between the hand and what Maverick Business Adventures might be other then the possible cliche of some sort of Business Adventure at “@” Hand?

So, it is #1 for sure with me but there is just a little something missing with the current @ graphic in the word Maverick.

I hope this helps from a customer perspective!!

    Best Regards,
    Tom Waldon

    Logo 1 for two reasons,

    1. It is clean an appealing, and also fun and energetic. That is the eye appeal part of it.

    2. From a production point of view, it is a 2 color print process. Gotta love the K.I.S.S. aspect of it.

Logo 3 would be a close second, in that logo you can almost see the adventure.

Logo 2 adds a level of complexity to the logo that doesn’t give the same level of returned benefit.

  12. Harry Says:

    Yanik,
While I still like logo 1…
As an afterthought you might have to take it into consideration if you ever plan on doing videos with chroma key(greenscreen) while wearing that on a polo shirt or ball cap etc.
Could be kind of scary with the background showing through your chest where your heart would be. :)

  13. MICHAEL BIGGERSTAFF Says:

none of them looked much like a live MAVERICK. BUT THEN WHO AM I
    TO JUDGE ?

  14. Rolland Says:

    Yanik,

I vote for# 4. It is cleaner than the others. the arches give it a sence of outdoors. I believe will appeal to young and old men and women.

  15. Richard T Says:

It has to be No 1.

  16. Kenbo Says:

Number 1 is really strikes me. First I love the name. Next having the letters in green connotes money and nature. Third, the letters being all the same size and somewhat thick along with the playful sunny “a” gives the logo a “playful” feel about it. It really strikes me as the adventure child inside of a successful businessman and women wanting to come out and play.

I wonder what #3 would look like if the designer got rid of the ‘hemisphere’ semicircle above the loge and made all the letters green, or shades of green starting with dark going to light. Just wondering what that might look like. But I know this can be addictive and a decision will never be made.

    I go with #1.

  17. Byron Says:

    Hi Yanik;

I must be in a minority, so whats new? For me it has to be three.

    Regards Byron

  18. Anna Says:

    Yanik,

Not to be difficult but I like four. I think it is more in line with the clients you are looking to attract. It is strong and shows purpose. The only thing I would consider changing is the color of the peaks. They don’t stir emotion.
Best of luck. I know the perfect logo will show up when it’s time!

  19. Sheri Farley Says:

    Yanik,

No question. #1 Hey, I’m a travel agent if you need one for planning your adventures.

  20. James T Saint Says:

None of these logos imply anything to me or the people I showed them to that relate to the term “maverick”.

To me the term “maverick” implys a little on the wild side, a little out of sync with the rest of the world, or a loner going his own way with out regard to the rest of the world.

On line market is that way to a degree.

But the green coloring should not be there. Many corporate studies have shown that most shades of green in corporate coloring gives people a sense of doubt about the company. There are only two shades of green that people respect. One of the is miltary OD Green, but I have no idea what the other one is.

I would stay away from any green coloring to be safe.

Secondly, I can highly recommend the following for logo work:

http://www.arttechstudio.com/ talk to Randy at (561) 333-7701. Tell him James from Halo Realty referred you.

They just did our redesign of our logo that we will be soon incorporating into our new website. Very responsive and went the extra mile to give us what we wanted as well as listened to our suggested changes to their initial designs.

Good Luck with a new logo.

  21. Charlotte Marshall Says:

In number 1 and 2, the “a” or little “hand” reminds me of a finger painted child’s hand imprint which can evoke a wonderful, child-like spirit of optimism, joy and adventure in any person regardless of age.

Number 2 and 3 obviously give the impression of mountains. However, number 3 has the added electrifing M which implies adventure where as number 4 is very clean and simple which can be good (KISS).

I vote for number 3 with 4 as a very close second. Although I love child-like enthusiasm, I think electricity is more powerful.

Best of luck with the logo and the venture!

  22. Rick Z Says:

    Yanick,

    A LOGO? Are you kidding?
Just curious what DSK would say…logo irrelevant, however, asking opinions as a reader involvement device is brilliant strategy. With all respect to the responders, none appear to be schooled in “Kennedy Style” marketing.

Coming from the “Kennedy School”, you are certainly being a maverick with even the word “logo” being uttered, much less actually CHOOSING from several.
As far as the logo…I pick the pretty one…

  23. Rick Butts Says:

Logo 3 has the most striking look and fits best with current web 2.0 modern styles. Not that it would limit it for the future at all – it looks good.

Orange is the new Red (online).

    Rick Butts

  24. audrey sussman Says:

logo 3 has the look – fun and professional.

  25. Gary Butler Says:

    Logo 3 is the best.

Logo 1 remindes me of Monster.com – same color and same circle squigley thing. It also smacks of sofware tech kind of stuff

  26. William Harbison Says:

    Hey Yanik,

I am not thrilled with any or them. However, of the four #1 is my favorite.

    Best Regards,

    Bill Harbison

  27. Yanik Silver Says:

    Rick Z – I know a direct marketer talking about a logo.
What can I say? I really like the one for this site and it conveyed what I wanted and going after to-=p-level entrepreneurs I decided to take the image a little more upscale aside from just a sales letter. Crazy! ;)

Thanks everyone for your input on the logo – for now I think #1 is the winner but I’m not beyond hiring another designer to see what they can do. However, at this point – the logo is taking a backseat to other work.

  28. Stephen Says:

None of the above point to the principals of the concept of achievers playing hard as well as working hard.

As a none US I would also point out the narrow cultural aspect of the word ‘Maverick’. What has a 1950’s/60’s TV programme got to do with anything? Or a rancher con-man who exploited a loophole in range manners to steal cows?

    Still like the idea though.

  29. Christel D'Agostino Says:

I would take no. 1. It’s original. Maybe, the “a” could be a bit clearer. This particular green color is considered ‘cool’. Once the perception/fashion changes, you can easily adapt a different shade or color.

  30. Dan Scott Says:

Definitely like No. 1. It’s eye catching and easy to identify on various products/placments.

  31. Brian Fitzmaurice Says:

No. 1 jumps out at me the most. Clean and simple. The hand makes me think of being “hands on” during the adventure!
