How to get more done, have more fun and make an impact each and every week

Fun / Philanthropy / Resources and Tools

I want to share with you a cool form I created for myself and have only shared with a few people. I think it’ll have a profound effect on your bottom line, your happiness and your esteem. Seriously! Each Sunday evening I have started using this form planning for the next upcoming week.

(Note: You are welcome to reproduce as many copies as you want but you cannot sell it and you must not modify it.)

Okay now you’ve got it let me go over the different parts of this form with you.

Part I: Weekly Awesomeness Awareness

It’s always easier for us to beat ourselves up and think what went wrong in our business and personal lives. This isn’t the spot for that. Take time to reflect on what went well! The power of gratitude has been proven to elevate our happiness and that’s what gets us into a positive state of mind.

Think about everything that went right this week. What are you making progress on? What’s actually working? Because it’s too easy to fall into a negative, self-defeating spiral when you find something wrong and then more and more things start sticking out about your life and business. Nobody has a perfect business or life – but by bringing positive focus to what’s going well you’re setting up a great week.

Part II: Make More, Have More Fun and Give More Back Section

If you’ve seen any of the Maverick Manifesto video – you know these intersecting 3 circles are the things that really drive me. I think it’s a balanced approach to entrepreneurship and unless we are planning and committing to creating this in our business lives it won’t happen.

I need to tip my hat to Cameron Herold who has been coaching me a bit. Cameron is the former COO of 1-800-Got Junk and helped build that to a $100M organization. One of the simple concepts he keeps stressing to me is creating a “Top 3″ list of most important must-accomplish tasks for the week. If nothing else, you must get these done. It’s a pretty simple concept but powerful. So I took that concept and instead of just being financial related let’s turn the focus on all 3 areas.

So take time before the week starts to think about your 3 most important, proactive moneymaking tasks and also about how you are going to create fun in your life and what you’re going to do to give.

Try this out and let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

    Yanik,

You are incredible my friend. Geesh, you are always thinking, always maintaining the necessary forward momentum!

I have downloaded your worksheet and saved it. I will definitely be using this worksheet.

    Hi Yanik,

Thanks so much for this excellent tool! I know it will be very useful. I especially like the focus on gratitude. How we think is so very important, and making a positive choice isn’t always easy with all the negativity constantly blaring at us. This form is a great way to stay pointed in the right direction. Thanks again.

Great idea Yanik: I’m going to print out one a week, place it aside my PC screen and go from there.

    Great stuff, Yanik!

I’ve actually started hold an “appreciation rock” and idea from “The Secret”

I like your idea of actually writing it down, also.

Have you ever thought of also writing down 3 things that you must complete that day, and not just 3 things you need to complete for the entire week?

    Thanks for the post!
    Alex Lim

    * 3 critical things for the day is a good way of doing critical activities too. -Y.S. *

I am going to use the form in my life – the computer world is totally addictive and can easily take over your life.
My own life is certainly out of balance – nothing to put in the fun bit at the moment so let’s see if by using your form that will change!

Yanik – great stuff. Printed and ready to go Sunday night. Thanks once again!

    Hi Yanik,

I love these kind of systems to help me get focused. It is so easy each day just to go with the “flow” and being busy and still not accomplishing much.

I like your point about the top 3 tasks to accomplish. This is also what I teach to companies when talking about effectiveness – applying Pareto-law.

    Thank you,
    Peter

This is an excellent resource, Yanik! I think it makes a lot more sense than a typical to-do list for the upcoming week. Thanks for sharing this!

One question, though: Is Part 1 intended to be a reflection on the PREVIOUS week or is it intended to be filled out as you go along in your CURRENT week?

    * It’s a reflection on the previous week of what went well. – Y.S. *

    Thanks Yanik,

    This really is very good.

I assume that as long as it is not altered in any way, it can be passed on to business colleagues and clients for their own personal use.

    Regards,
    Jeff Henshaw.

    * Yep exactly – pass it along *

  11. August 29, 2009, 8:13 pm

    Yanik,

Do you mind if I put it out on my Lone Wolf Entrepreneur blog?

    * Go for it as long you don’t alter the form – Y.S. *

Bless You Yanik … thank you. I’m very good at having masses of “to-do” lists and rarely accomplish everything on it….so i like the idea of just having three things to focus on – (is that three things in each area). I will give it a go, starting tonight. Full marks re Gratitude Journal. Stay Blessed Ntathu x

Hey Yanik… Your sheet is a great way to focus on the most important things that will make the biggest difference. Funky graphics too!

  18. August 31, 2009, 10:20 am

Yanik, this is an excellent form. If people actually use it and put it into practice, it will make an amazing difference in their lives.

Great planning sheet Yanik, I’ll start my week with this from now on! Thanks for sharing.
BTW, I must get a colour printer!!!

Thanks for showing this concept, looks interesting.

Currently I use a Success Journal, something that looks like being in alignment with your Awesomeness Awareness, the other elements do look interesting also, the Give More is also an important element.

Recently I did put an interesting video about ‘Value Based Goal Setting’ on my Business Blog that goes a little deeper into Goal Setting than only the usual ‘SMART-Goalsetting way’ because it also includes – Giving – in it.
    (see: http://hpshappyhomebusiness.blogspot.com/2009/08/wow-this-mister-knox-is-fort-knox-of.html)

Looks like a great concept to ballance things out.

    All the Best,

Thanks Yanik, this is one of the most useful tools I’ve come across in quite a while! A tool to help people realize what is right with their lives is worth any amount of money. Thank you for spreading the joy!

The maverick multiplier is fantastic, I actually used it in our weekly Monday meeting. The fact about the 3 most important weekly money making ideas was great. I will from this point on refer to this at the begging of each meeting to have my employees and partners reflect
on their weekly activities. For a while I have been explaining to everyone
that there majoring in minor things daily. This gives complete clarity of
what should be important or not.

    Hey Yanik,

    A great idea!

This sheet could be amended to any timescale that suits :-) If you have the time, then this could be set to daily, or just twice a week!

Either way, this is a cool idea. Get it down on paper, and it saves cluttering my poor little brain with too much information!

    Talk soon,

    Paul
