Napkin Business book?
The other night over cocktails and with a few sharpies I was doodling away some of my business and marketing concepts on bar napkins. Check ‘em out -
What do you think? Would you buy a book of Napkin Business Wisdom drawn on real napkins?
Leave me a comment and let me know what you think and if you got some names for it. The best I came up with is “Bar Napkin Business Plans”.

Nice Yanik.
The very fisrt think I notice, you doodle in color. Hmmmm.
It is an interesting concept. I have been toying with writing a similar kind of book, like a cookbook.
Keep helping and keep having FUN! Arrr.

Geesh, that should read ~ The very first thing I notice…
May 13th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Cute and gimmicky. Would you have pages in between each napkin to explain the doodles and add more substance?
May 13th, 2010 at 2:42 pm
Hey Yanik,
I think it’s cute…reminds me of Hugh MacLeod’s business card drawings and, YEP, I bought — and loved — his book.
Have fun with it,
Sandy

That’s a nice idea Yanik. The second ones a bit difficult to read. Might be better to doodle on paper so it’s more ledgable
May 13th, 2010 at 2:54 pm
I like it! Would buy it and put it on my coffee table!
May 13th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
YEAH! Especially if it was a collection of ‘Napkin Plans’ from lots of different people.
You could put it out as a contest or something..
Reminds of the book “This Is NOT a Book” by Keri Smith.
Thumbs up from me buddy.

This reminds me of Frank Kern’s handwritten letter that came with Mass Control… I love seeing stuff like that as it’s so unlike the normal “stuffy” “professional” way of doing things…
I’d totally be all over “Bar Napkin Business Plans”!
May 13th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
That would be a really cool book, just hope no one spills their drink on it, or have kids that love daddy’s doodle book. Definately one for the bookshelf, just like Ryan Deiss’ Million Dollar Napkin! I’d buy it!
May 13th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
MAKES AN INSTANT IMPACT. WITH A LITTLE WORK AND BRAINSTORMING TO REFINE IT I THINK IT WOULD WORK. MAYBE A SOFTWARE PROGRAM TO CREATE YOUR OWN NOTES.
May 13th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
It could say from napkin to paradise.or no napkin, no business plan.
May 13th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
Coming from a restaurant perspective, I’d call it, “Bev Nap Biz Plan”.
May 13th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
Yes…can’t wait for it. All the best thought processes have been on napkins. Go, Go, Go.!
May 13th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Bar Napkin Brainstorms
May 13th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
Hahahah… do you always travel with colored markers?
May 13th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
@Walter – Maybe. That’s a good idea
May 13th, 2010 at 5:51 pm
It’s an interesting concept for a book. I hope the images would be clearer, and some sort of explanations. If you’re like me, notes are usually cryptic.
May 13th, 2010 at 6:29 pm
This is a great idea!
The greatest ideas start as doodles.
It’s a variation on the “My best ideas start in the shower” theme.
How about this: “Plans On A Napkin”
May 13th, 2010 at 6:51 pm
Great concept but I think you might need professional help. LOL

A great idea, but the napkins would not hold up, better transfer it to 20# bond for the book. Would love to see the info, there. Call it Yanik’s Business Doodles.
May 14th, 2010 at 12:19 am
Pure bullshit. Nobody needs this junk.
May 14th, 2010 at 1:08 am
Hi Yanik,
Yes I like this idea of informal business concepts, reminds me of the UK guy that wrote the Beermat Entrepreneur book.
How about you get a bunch of successful business people to try and do a doodle that sums up their unique business philosophy.
Not sure I would buy it though, unless it was a pop up book.

Positive
It would make a nice selection of napkins for a business dinner
May 14th, 2010 at 6:23 am
Now that is what I am working for, to sit and have a drink and make money ideas work. Really cool idea.
May 14th, 2010 at 6:51 am
“Doodle Your Way To Health and Happiness” …..great idea. Love the colourfulness of your doobles. My daughter’s always doodle in class – aids their concentration and they pass them along under desks ….makes learning more fun.
May 14th, 2010 at 7:38 am
@Dan – yeah definitely not spill proof
May 14th, 2010 at 12:34 pm
Yeah – fun book idea. Although Dan Roam already has a couple books out that are pretty similiar. “Back of the Napkin” is the one I have. Kinda teaches you ‘how to use pictures to sell ideas’ though. Your idea seems a bit different.
Man, thanks for reminding me to make my business fun. I’m screwing that up again.
May 14th, 2010 at 11:12 pm
Napkins, now there’s a great way to pass time at the coffee shop. If there drawn using the various colors as you have, you should try doing that on the tableclothes. Who knows they may leave them for the next customer. Imagine some ideas you could pull at the end of the day from just that one table cloth.
May 17th, 2010 at 5:49 am
Nice work Yanik. Will you be considering including other contributors as well?
May 17th, 2010 at 7:12 pm
I think that is a great idea!!!
May 17th, 2010 at 9:50 pm
this is yet ANOTHER real awesome post Yanik!
reminds me of outrageous advertising by Bill Glazer,
you could probably use those napkins as a Lead-Generator

Hi Yanik,
My mentor Alex Jeffreys talks very highly of you and I wanted to stop by to say hi!
Absolutely fabulous napkin business plan idea! By the way, you doodle very well and I love the colors.
Sometimes when you come up with an idea or thought you just have to write them down and all you have at times is a napkin or like me I even use the back of receipt paper, and even toilet paper, whatever is handy at the time!! Yes, they say you’re best ideas come when you least expect it:) Because of this though I have learned to carry a little notebook with me.
As for names I was thinking “Plankin” Plan + Napkin. Kinda of sounds like stuff you would find at the bottom of the sea, or is that plankton?
As you mentioned in your napkin drawings above, “you really can have all 3″, you are living proof of that and that is what I will achieve very soon for my own life as well. You’re an inspiration!

This is a cool idea. Businesses could supply napkins of their restaurant, bar, etc., and pay you for advertising for them. You could at least get the napkins for free.
May 24th, 2010 at 8:20 am
@Penny – possibly. Who knows? Maybe have them sketch their best business ideas
May 27th, 2010 at 12:10 pm
Hey Yanik, I think those napkins are very cool. I remember Ryan Deiss’s one for his continuity site. Very effective for dissecting your business model.
P.S. I finally posted the video interview of you on my site!

I really like those ! How about calling them Bar Napkin Revelations and making an eBook out of them ?
I bet lots of people would love it !
June 3rd, 2010 at 1:39 pm
Hey Yanik – Here in Baltimore with Bill, Ryan, Perry, Bacak, etc., Masterminding. Heading to Dan’s house tomorrow with Bill for a consult.
Two things…
(1) When’s your next Vegas Mav. Experience as I have the time now?
(2) 12 years ago, I “doodled” my entire business plan on a bar napkin for a Million Dollar speaking business that is now a Multi-Million Dollar Business. Are you looking for a GREAT Case Study/Story for your book? Would also like to help you promote the book.
Email me on my private email…..would like to help you promote the book as I think it’s a killer idea!
Talk soon…..James

@James – nice to hear from you. We got something in Oct w/Maverick – the Covert Ops adventure. That should be pretty cool and close to you – Phx. I’d love to see that napkin – that’s awesome!!
June 27th, 2010 at 1:50 pm
Hey Yanik,
The napkin that says “FUN” reminds me of the beginning of a good sales letter! Seriously, it gave me an emotional reaction lol.
Yanik, I want to promote one of your products but have a quick question for you. Can you email me at brandonrlewis (AT) gmail.com or tell me how to contact you?
Thanks!
Brandon

Brandon, sure just contact our team at http://www.surefiremarketing.com/support and they should be able to help you. Glad you liked the Napkin.

Hey Yanik
Wow I love the idea. Love the colour and the neat writing. Fun seems to be the key word through out.
Cheers Kerie

Hello Yanik,
I like that idea your on, its funny because I am in the Military and i heard rumors that most of the high Officials plan there strategies on napkins first (its easier to just flush them down the toilet if it dosen’t work, lol).
Okay i was thinking for some names like these, might sound corny:
*Nap-A-Millionaire
*Nap-e-bizz ebook 100% recycled profits (hehe)
*After Hours Ideas
Thats all i can think of, good luck and look forward to seeing your product so i can become an Affiliate.
P.S. Ms. Rosalind G said to say “Hi”

Yanik,
It seems like I hear more and more people going back to basics. I know for a fact that I do my mind-maps best on napkins. This is especially true when I am drawing a new biz dev idea with someone who has “gold” content.
As for a book, I would buy a collection of napkins just for inspiration if nothing else.
Look forward to meeting you one of these days
July 22nd, 2010 at 8:05 am
Jamak – yeah agree. For me, my best mindmaps and diagrams are pen & paper!
July 24th, 2010 at 8:12 pm
Hi Yanik,
Nice Idea. I’d buy a book like this, first of all because surely you’ll share worthful ideas as always you do. I’d sugest the name “Napkin Business Key Moments”.
Froy.
July 31st, 2010 at 5:10 pm
Yes…I would definitely buy. What I see are the inner workings of your creative mind as well as your success philosophy which obviously works.
I see that I have a wage worker’s mentality rather than that of a creator. Your system of giving/loving/creating speaks for itself.
August 27th, 2010 at 3:33 pm
How about naming them ‘Biz Mapkins”
Jeff
August 27th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
@Jeff – that’s not bad
