Maverick Philosophy with Frank McKinney
I probably should have posted this a lot sooner…but a few weeks ago I was in Delray Beach speaking at the ETR Internet workshop and I walked down the road to my friend, Frank McKinney’s treehouse. (Seriously, he’s got a pretty sweet treehouse as an office!)
Quick background on Frank. At age 22, Mr. McKinney founded his first real estate investment company and bought his first $50,000 fixer-upper, selling it a few months later for a $7,000 profit. Now, 22 years later, McKinney continues to create real estate markets where others dare to tread. He has built spec homes (homes built without a buyer) valued in the tens of millions of dollars, including the creation of the world’s first $100+ million spec home. But where I’m really inspired by Frank is his giving side. He’s created an incredible charity that builds homes for the poorest of the poor in Haiti with his Caring House Project Foundation.
Now Frank is a true Maverick and I wanted to get his take on the 3 pillars of Make More, Have More Fun and Give More Back! (That’s what I cover in the brand new Maverick Business Insider newsletter.)

Let me know what you think.
Also, a quick update – Underground® 5 is now open. We’ve got a stellar line-up of under-the-radar marketers doing over $200,000,000.00 online including Bob Parsons from GoDaddy.com as our keynote speaker. The best discounts, bonuses and goodies are available right now!

Great video. The three intersecting circles make sense. Passion, Money, Sharing Your Blessings.
We really should publish more about people like Frank, yourself,Richard Branson etal as I am sure the public just perceives everyone as being rich people who magically just get all this money and spend it on themselves and of course nothing is further from the truth. Thanks Yanik for being a Maverick and one day I hope to be able to do the same via my experienceseekerstravelclub.
Hi Yanik, it’s so good to have more content from Frank Mckinney on your blog. He seems to understand that it’s more important to give back even
if you don’t have a million dollars. And how that flows back to you, not in success, but creating value for others without wanting anything back.
I give back to struggling blues musicians by writing free press kits for them and helping them get ahead. And I hire a local writer for my site every couple of months and pay them.
Peace,
Mark
Great post Yanik, it’s 2 am, but I had to watch it…very inspirational.
Take care, see you soon.
Hi There,
Well, thank you for inviting me. I have reviewed what you have given me so far.
in general I concur with your observations as history points out(the tithe Barn and community granaries). Business, similar to the individual owes a debt to society which can be in the form of recompense to those sectors of society in need.
There are many sectors in society in need. These generally stem from; water, food, spiritual()including religious) and academic aspects. Academic Aspects is the broadest coverage, as considering the arts and sciences.
Business, in being a part of society, is located in the academics while the individual is located in all these aspects. However, business is supported by the individual. Thus there is no business unless goods or money are transferred from one individual to the other. The action is called Trade or Exchange whereas when goods only are exchanged it is called Barter. Although Barter considers more the action of Trading face to face.
It is therefore, only reasonable, that the excesses of business, above the business needs, be used for society needs. Conversely, it is a society obligation to support business, when in need(look at the present auto industry situation as a good illustration of this aspect).
I think when you explained Business Development as the second of three aspects. The omission of start-up needs really introduces a 4th consideration( remember negligence can be defined as not only the failure to something(required) but the failure to do something that aught to be done !- this is being used here as a parallel consideration illustration, only)
I believe in the above I have shown there to be a 4th consideration which needs to be fully addressed, as yet.

GO MAVERICK – Yanik – thanks for posting the interview with Frank. My business and personal life has been changed by Frank in many ways. He is an interesting and unique person to study and learn from. I’ve had the special opportunity to travel to Haiti with Frank and visit his housing projects there. Everyone should check out the Carring House Foundation Project section of his web site. Peace Brother – Doug
Yes Yanik,
You should have posted sooner.
I wish to be brief. I am impressed with your path of seeking out and associating with “givers.” Congrat’s.

Giving back is what it’s all about.
When we created our site, just as an idea, back over the summer- that’s what we had in mind.
It’s a blog-driven, charity-based site dedicated to the men & women of our Armed Forces. On our site, you can shop & we donate 10% of after-tax proceeds to military charities, like http://www.vetfoundation.org which helps injured military personnel assimilate back into the civilian workforce.
Once our revenue increases, we’ll look into even donating a larger percentage.
Best,
-K
